When in... Maastricht - Day 2

On our second day in  Maastricht , the day started very foggy and very grey. we first visited one of the most known churches in the city - Sint-Janskerk (it is a protestant church). The sir that was there told us some of his adventures in the World War II, which was very nice of him. He also informed us that we could go up the stairs to the top of the tower - we had to climb 218 very narrow steps (yes, we counted them!!). The view is breathtaking and you can see the entire city (some how the photos I had taken vanished from my camera!!). After the visit to this 14th century building we decided to visit Basilica of Saint Servatius, which is next door to the Sint-Janskerk. Unfortunately it was closed. so we just walked around the city, the street food seemed amazing and I'm very sad I didn't get anything to eat (I was too scared to get a stomach flu). After walking for what looked like forever (30 minutes - I was starving, ok?), we decided to have breakfast in what I would call a supermarket (La Place). I had a rhubarb and strawberry pie and a hot chocolate. Afterwards we decided to cross the bridge (the old one to me more specific; there are like four bridges) and went to the other side of the city. there was a cafe I would have loved to visit, Zondag, but I did not had the chance to go there. If you go there please let me know what you thought about it! We walk all the way to the Maastricht railway station, which was a building that I really wanted to visit (that and to know the ticket prices to Amsterdam - freaking expensive!!). But the building itself was very pretty! I ended up having lunch at McDonald's again! Why?? Because almost everything is closed on Monday. If you plan on visiting Maastricht don't do it on this day!! After lunch we crossed the bridge and went shopping and walked around a little bit more. I bought some things I thought I would never get!! I'll do a haul in another post. After all of the walking we decided to go back home to rest a bit before we went out to have dinner. when we got home our host told us we could use anything she and her housemates had in the kitchen so I decided to cook a very portuguese meal, massa de frango (you can call it chicken pasta) and a baked a cake, quatre quart de bretagne (not portuguese at all). They loved my cooking!!
And then we were so full and so tired that we decided to stay in and ended up watching a movie.

There were bikes everywhere!! They even had traffic lights for bike riders!!

Dogs were so well taken care and they could go inside the stores!!

These are photos from the park I talked about in my last post, it is soooo beautiful and peaceful.

I freaking loved the houses there, I soo want to live there!!

Love, Cristiana
